Why we're endorsing Michelle:

As a health professional and Chinese American, Dr. Michelle Au understands the impacts of race and socioeconomic status on access and affordability of healthcare and the needs communities often face. As we face the implications of the COVID-19 crisis, we know Michelle is uniquely qualified to help address the many public health and social needs that we will face in the coming years. We’re excited to support her bid for the State Senate!

More about Michelle:

Michelle is a first-generation Chinese-American running for State Senate District 48, which consists of Alpharetta, Berkeley Lake, Duluth, Johns Creek, Lawrenceville, Norcross, Peachtree Corners, and Suwanee. This district is dense with AAPI communities, consisting of approximately 24.3% of Asians. Overall, this district consists of 57% of racial minorities.

Michelle grew up in New York City, where she had a robust public education and took the subway to school. She went to medical school, and after becoming an anesthesiologist, she realized that she could be doing more to improve public health infrastructure and obtained her Masters in Public Health.

She understands that as a doctor, her patients' problems are just being mitigated or slightly repaired, and adequate access to healthcare and a healthy lifestyle is essential to addressing issues before they enter her office. Public health is vital to having healthy communities and can bring an educated voice to champion the public health crisis at the Georgia State Capitol.

Moreover, as a transplant from New York City, Michelle values an accessible and expansive public transit system to mitigate the traffic and infrastructure issues in metro-Atlanta. Michelle understands that creating accessible public transit can lead to a cleaner environment and grow the economic opportunity in Georgia.

The Asian American Advocacy Fund is proud to endorse Dr. Michelle Au for State Senate District 48. As an Asian American, she can directly connect with her AAPI constituents both during and post-session. She has great policies, and we believe that with her medical expertise, she will be able to implement the public health changes Georgia needs.
