Sally Harrell

State Senate District 40

About Sally Harrell (She/her):

Senator Sally Harrell was first elected to the Georgia Senate in 2018 to serve the 40th Senate District, which includes parts of Dekalb and Gwinnett counties. She is a member of the Senate Higher Education, Retirement, Government Oversight and State Institutions and Property Committees. She currently serves as the Senate co-Chair of the Georgia Women’s Legislative Caucus and Vice Chair of both the Dekalb Delegation and the Working Families Caucus.

Why We’re Endorsing:

Senator Harrell is seeking re-election to continue advocating for improved public education, from pre-K to higher education, and healthcare for all, because she believes that all lives are equal in value. Recent legislative accomplishments include reducing the cost of higher education in Georgia, and expanding the number of Georgians with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) who receive Medicaid waivers for Home & Community-Based service. She is a passionate advocate for Georgians with developmental disabilities and supports allocating more state resources to get community members off of long waiting lists needed for services. Additionally, Sally stood up to protect Georgians’ right to free speech in her opposition to HB 30, a bill aiming to falsely equate criticism of the state of Israel with antisemitism.

Key Issues:

  • Healthcare for all

  • Improve public education

  • Transportation

  • Protect the environment

  • Preserve Democracy and protect voting rights
